Panasonic to Spend Over US$900 Mln on New Image Sensor Plant

Japan-based Panasonic, whose corporate name was officially changed from Matsushita Electric Industrial to Panasonic in October, disclosed on October 7 a 94 billion Yen (US$949.87 million; US$1= Yen) plan to build a new plant manufacturing image sensors for use in digital cameras and medical equipment, according to Agence France-Presse. Estimated to cover an area of about 11,000 square meters, Panasonic's new manufacturing facility will be located adjacent to the company's existing image sensor plant in Toyama Prefecture.
